Anne Gravett, is a self-discovered artist dealing in multiple media – with special emphasis on weaving and ceramics. Graced with natural talent, throughout life, Anne practiced art in many forms creating mostly for herself, family and friends. When undergoing treatment for cancer, she found healing and normalcy in her artwork. But it was not until after her second diagnosis and battle with cancer that her concentration on her artwork intensified and she began sharing her work with the larger community.
Now working primarily in clay arts and weaving, she shows several times a year in Las Vegas where she has made her home for 37 years. Healed of cancer and now a seasoned traveler, her artwork looks more outward than inward.
She finds inspiration in faraway culture – Spain, Portugal, Iceland, Croatia – and close to home in the high desert and beaches she frequently visits. As she works the clay, the fluid motion of the wheel and the water return her to the ocean tides and the ever-changing sand.
Her weaving, particularly, the threads so tightly twined, reflect the closeness and support of her family and friends, both for her art and her personal struggles as neither the warp nor the weft can stand alone.
Anne Gravett’s reception will be held May 5, 1-3 p.m. at the Gallery 1305 Arizona, Boulder City, NV in the Boulder Dam Hotel, 2ndfloor.
