Although Cathy Coffey had always been creative, her artistic life really began when she retired. Cathy's neighbor, who was an artist and art teacher, was the one who encouraged her to get into art. Cathy started taking classes offered by her local community center and also took workshops with some wonderful artists.
Cathy began by painting still life and landscapes, then she took portrait and figure classes and was hooked! She had been lucky enough to have lived in areas that offered weekly figure drawing and painting sessions which helped hone her skills. Cathy says, "I just love drawing or painting anything with a face!" Her choice of medium is mostly watercolor, acrylic, graphite, ink and charcoal, but she says she'll try just about anything.
Cathy has won some awards for her work in local art shows and was fortunate enough to have her painting picked as one of the top 100 in The Best of Acrylic Magazine after entering AcrylicWorks 8 Art Competition in 2021.
