Travels, Memories and Inspiration
Martin Genett, Artist
Las Vegas , NV
Medium: Acrylics and Oils
I was born and raised in Northeastern PA, where I was the oldest of 8 Children. I had made my way to Las Vegas in 2004, in an effort to escape the brutal winters of Northeastern PA.
In my 20’s I began a career in Architecture, securing a position as a draftsman in an Architectural Firm. Several of the Architects had recognized something in me and trained me in Architectural/Technical drawing skills.
My painting has just recently become a passion, realized by, of all things, a “Pinots and Pallets” night out with my wife and friends. This new found interest, had drawn me to different artists’ techniques, Bob Ross, Jerry Yarnell and Wilson Bickford, the PBS lineup. With the basics from these virtual mentors, I had begun developing my own techniques with landscapes and other subject matter, in oils and acrylics. “Practice, Practice, more Practice!”
My practice paid off when I entered several of my pieces in a Juried Fine Art Show at the “City Lights Artist Co Op” in Henderson, as a non-member. My entry “Retired Rust” was awarded 1st Place in Acrylics. Quite a surprise and honor.
I owe my true inspiration and drive to the unwavering support from my wife Julie, she recognized this creative side and passion for painting. Helping me to realize it, by drawing inspiration from our travels, camping in our travel trailer, hiking and kayaking in the surrounding Southwest Area. Although some pieces are representative of Plein air, the majority of my pieces are inspired by these memories translated into the subject matter.
I hope that you enjoy my artistic impressions and continue to support the Arts..
