Patricia Amon

Montana born, Pat Amon grew up in a small ranching and railroad community surrounded by rugged mountains, beautiful rivers and wildlife.  She was introduced to drawing and painting at an early age by her mother, a talented artist.  A deep love for nature and the western style of life is evident in her paintings.

Careers with the Federal Government took Pat, her husband and daughter around the United States.    Their first assignments were in Yellowstone National Park, and in 1975 they were assigned to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area where Pat developed an appreciation for the unique beauty of the high desert and the southwest.

Pat joined the Boulder City Art Guild in 1986, finding an enthusiastic group of artists as well as an outlet for her artwork.  She and her daughter Valerie, an award-winning national artist, often paint together and display their paintings in art shows.  They participated in multiple 3-generation art shows with Pat’s mother, Helen.  Extended yearly visits to the family home in Montana provide endless opportunities to paint the subjects that first sparked Pat’s interest in art.

Using water-based oils on archival boards or canvas and after covering the painting surface with a “tangerine” color base and letting it dry, Pat paints a quick layin of basic shapes.   This basic layin is refined as she creates the painting.  In addition, Pat also creates paintings using hard and soft pastels on sanded paper.   Both mediums allow her to get the rich saturated colors that she sees in the subjects she likes to paint.

Pat's favorite quote:  “I am always doing what I can’t do yet in order to learn how to do it.”

Vincent  van Gogh
